Okay, I’ll admit it. I’ve been avoiding the game, if only because I know what it takes to get a Golden Chocobo. The idea of grinding to max out materia and kill a weapon and trade for one (that’s what real men do, if you recall), or the longer, often rewarding farming required to get the coveted S class by breeding.
That is no small task:
Getting the Gold Chocobo will take about 8-10 hours, at least 300,000 gil as well as the airship and lots of patience. You will get to explore the materia caves located at the top right corner of the map (Gold Chocobo only), middle-left of the map (At least a Green Chocobo required), bottom-right of the map (At least a Blue Chocobo required), and middle of the map of the western continent (Black Chocobo required).
What the above neglects to mention is all the racing you need to do to earn enough Golden Saucer Points to afford TONS of Battle Arena in order to purchase Cloud’s final limiti break, Omnislash.
Battle Arena grinding (you notice my verbal repitition here?) is, at least, another eight to ten hours, if you are lucky.
I mean, can you blame a brother for dragging his feet?
